Srinagar, July 5 (KNO) : While urging the Government to fulfill the genuine demands of doctors of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar and its associated hospitals, CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami today appealed the medicos to exempt the critical services from the strike.

Patient care has suffered in all the six associated hospitals of GMC Srinagar due to the indefinite strike of resident doctors association (RDA). Whatever may be the circumstances, the patients must not suffer. Government should settle the issues with the striking doctors through negotiations and not through invoking ESMA. The representatives of the striking doctors should be called by the Government and an amicable solution must be found without any further delay.

There should be no delay as prolonging strike means more hardships to patients. Authorities must also ensure that all the emergency services remain functional so that poor patients, some of whom travel from far-off places for treatment don’t suffer. In the last two-days reports of patients returning from hospitals without treatment are pouring in.

The Government is duty bound to ensure that health services run without any hiccups. Ensuring adequate healthcare services has become more imperative especially in view of the flood alert sounded by the Government due to inclement weather conditions.
